Movie Review: Halloween ll
Halloween ll
This is probably the first popular scary movie for which the sequel doesn’t absolutely stink. We start off with a recap of the first movie, then immediately continue into the second movie. Once again, we see Michael in first-person pov going around the neighbourhood, creating more havoc, while people are just now learning about the massacre he cashed in. One thing that I thought was pretty funny is when Dr. Loomis almost shoots at an innocent kid that looked like Michael but gets stopped, but ultimately the kid still dies in a horrible car accident caused by one of his colleagues.
One of the things I really like about Michael is his random appearances in front of people and just showing up at random places, which are continued in this movie. One thing I have noticed about Michael is that most of his victims die because of their curiosity. They could be doing something when a random noise gets heard, and they immediately want to see where the sound came from, which is dumb. Most of the kills in this movie are mostly off screen, and we don't see them until later, which I kind of dislike, but they also get worse, other than maybe a couple of kills.
One of my favourite kills in this movie is the part where the nurse Karen dies. The way she thought that Michael was Budd and was actually talking to him about plans and stuff was absolutely hilarious and insane at the same time. When he got ahold of her while turning up the heat in the jacuzzi and slowly drowning her while her face was burning, it was absolutely amazing. My second favourite has to be when Michael stabbed the other nurse with one of their tools and picked her up so effortlessly, which is another great kill.
This movie also created some high anticipation moments that had you on your feet, such as when Laurie was waiting for the elevator doors to close when Michael was just right there, and I think Michael could have gotten her but just wanted a better chase, I guess. We then find out that Laurie is actually Michael's second sister, but after the parents died, she was put up for adoption and accepted by the family she has right now, and the doctors didn't tell the Strode family anything about the Myers's family because they wanted to protect them, and now he's here to finish them off, which is why he's so eager to kill her.
It's so crazy to me that Michael was shot like 16 times by Dr. Loomis and still survived. We know that he's not human, but really? Is he wearing a bullet-proof vest? The movie ends with Doctor Loomis scarfing himself and burning the place down with Michael in it. We see that Michael is burning with his mask and everything, but we know he isn't actually dead, and it finishes off with Laurie in an ambulance car again. Overall, this is a pretty good sequel. Some of the dialogue scenes were dragged on, and I wish we could have gotten some of the kills on screen instead of just seeing Michael creeping around the hospital, but I still enjoyed it.
