Movie Review: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I was quite eager to see this film since I enjoy viewing slasher characters from childhood and learning about their origins. The horrors and killings in this film are excellent, even though the basic plot and dialogue could use some work.
Starting with one of the most anxious scenes that keeps you worried and disturbed, in my opinion, is when "the hitchhiker" is in their truck. The way he is so out of control and how he can switch how he acts at any moment is why it was so interesting to me. We get an introduction to Leatherface as soon as Kirk steps into his house; he gets brutally murdered with some sort of hammer, including his girlfriend, who gets hung up like some meat.
Near the end of the film, we learn that the hitchhiker, the leather face, and the person working at the gas station are all brothers, which was fairly obvious given the way they all reacted. Edwin Neal and Marilyn Burns' acting is among the best in this film. Edwin Neal performs very well with his chaotic character, who makes you feel uneasy, and Marilyn Burns' acting is also remarkable because you can see the panic and survival instincts played in her character.
The ending scene is my favourite scene from the entirety of the movie; it displays this fearful moment in which Leatherface and his brother are chasing her while she's getting stabbed in the back and hearing laughter behind her. Sally gets into someone's trunk and escapes from all the monstrousness, and we get an absolutely stunning shot of Leather Face going crazy and swinging his chainsaw everywhere, which is just amazing. Overall, a great movie.
